Dental implants in the aesthetic zone
What is an implant in the aesthetic zone?
This refers to a dental implant placed in a position that is visible when you smile. The incisors, canines, and premolars of both arches are considered to be in the aesthetic zone.
Requirements of the aesthetic zone
Dental implants must provide both optimal function and a refined aesthetic result.
To ensure an aesthetic outcome, we pay particular attention to two elements:
-
the prosthesis itself (color, translucency, shape of the crown)
-
and the surrounding gum tissue (shape, harmony, volume)
We make no compromises in this area. To achieve excellence, we use the most sophisticated technologies available
At every step of the treatment, our team works with precision so that the final result appears perfectly natural.
Challenges related to the aesthetic zone
When a surgeon extracts a tooth, the underlying bone begins to resorb rapidly. In less than three months, irreversible bone volume loss occurs.
This bone resorption also leads to the collapse of gum tissue, which is left without its natural support. Both bone and gum loss compromise the aesthetics of future implant restorations.
To preserve the level of bone and gum, we apply specific techniques right from the extraction. These protocols aim to limit resorption and stabilize tissues.
Furthermore, when a tooth in a visible area is removed, we place a temporary tooth on the implant immediately. Thanks to this approach, the patient maintains a normal social life, without aesthetic interruption.
Finally, to ensure both aesthetics and comfort, we implement immediate loading protocols—also called immediate aesthetic loading. This strategy allows the patient to enjoy a natural appearance from the day of the procedure.
Aesthetic-zone implant procedure
The most suitable protocol for implant treatment in the aesthetic zone typically includes the following steps:
extraction of the tooth, preservation of the alveolar bone, implant placement, buried connective tissue grafting, and immediate aesthetic restoration via fixed prosthesis.
All of these steps are performed in a single intervention:
-
We extract the tooth atraumatically, aiming to preserve bone and gum structures.
-
We immediately place the dental implant, respecting an ideal three‑dimensional position.
-
We fill the extraction socket with a biomaterial to limit post-extraction bone resorption.
-
We perform a connective tissue graft: a piece of gum, often harvested from the upper wisdom teeth area, is inserted via a tunnel technique between the bone and the gum. This graft helps thicken the soft tissues and anticipate future bone resorption.
-
We place immediately a prosthetic abutment and a provisional screwed crown , to restore the smile’s appearance without delay.
Thanks to this protocol, we extract the diseased tooth and place an implant with a fixed prosthesis in the same session. You leave on the same day with an aesthetic and functional provisional tooth.
Finalization of treatment
After about 3 months of healing, we replace the provisional abutment and crown with a definitive abutment and a customized ceramic crown perfectly integrated into your smile.
